The death toll in the road collapse accident on the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in Guangdong Province has risen to 48.

According to the information from the Publicity Department of the Dabu County Committee in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, at around 2:10 a.m. on May 1st, a road collapse accident occurred on the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway near the K11+900m mark in the direction towards Fujian. As of 5:30 a.m. on May 2nd, 23 vehicles had been found to have fallen into the collapsed area, resulting in 36 deaths and 30 injuries (none of whom are in life-threatening conditions).

 

At present, Guangdong Province and Meizhou City have dispatched the most capable medical experts to conduct multi-disciplinary consultations and go all out to treat the injured. The work of disaster handling and follow-up treatment is being carried out in an orderly manner.

In the afternoon of May 2nd, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province held a press conference to report on the rescue and treatment situation of the road collapse on the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway. The press conference reported that as of 2 p.m. today, the collapse disaster has caused 48 deaths, and the DNA of another 3 people is being further compared and confirmed. There are also 30 injured people, and none of them are in life-threatening conditions.
