Xu Lizhi's poems have a clear theme. On the one hand, there is the life on the mechanical, monotonous, repetitive and high-intensity industrial assembly line, and on the other hand, there is the deep-seated pain, suffering, loneliness and silent outcry.
Xu Lizhi was born on June 7, 1990, in Jieyang, Guangdong Province. After graduating from high school, he worked in places such as Guangzhou and Jieyang. In early 2011, he came to Shenzhen and joined Foxconn as an assembly line worker. Later, he was transferred to a logistics position. After his contract expired in early 2014, he went to Jiangsu to look for a job. Soon, he returned to Shenzhen. On September 26, 2014, he signed another three-year labor contract with Foxconn. On September 30, he passed away after falling from a building. His poetic career began around 2010, and a small number of his works were published. His poems are simple, decisive, and intense, combining critical thinking and lyricism. He often uses absurd or shocking strokes to write about the sorrowful lives at the bottom of society and the poetry of death.
Zheng Xiaoqiong's poetry is renowned for its profound sense of pain. This pain is not merely physical torture but also spiritual humiliation and damage. Her poems document the violence, hardships, and pain endured by the low - end migrant workers in an industrialized society.
Despite the hardships in life, as the line "Someone is living by relying on it" in the poem suggests, Zheng Xiaoqiong's poem demonstrates the tenacious survival will of migrant workers in the face of adversity. They still strive to hold on and live tenaciously amidst the difficult life.
