On April 9, the Fourth Joint Meeting of Trade Unions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, hosted on a rotating basis by the General Union of Trade Unions of Macau, was held in Macau. The meeting, with the theme of "Strengthening the Collaboration among Trade Unions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau · Facilitating the High-quality Development of the Greater Bay Area", jointly discussed the exchanges and cooperation among trade unions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Lv Yesheng, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress and Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Yan Zhichan, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, and Zhang Guang, Secretary General of the China Workers' Exchange Center of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, were invited to attend the meeting as guests of the guiding units and delivered speeches.
The meeting emphasized that General Secretary Xi Jinping has given the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area a new positioning of "one point and two regions", and the 18th National Congress of the Chinese Trade Unions requires improving the exchange and cooperation mechanism with trade unions and the labor circles in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and promoting the development and growth of the forces that love the motherland, Hong Kong and Macau. 2024 is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and a crucial year for achieving the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan. At this new starting point, it is of great significance and responsibility for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau to jointly plan the exchanges and cooperation among trade unions under the new situation, draw up a blueprint for innovative development, and unite and mobilize the vast number of workers and friends in the labor circle to contribute to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the new stage.
The meeting required that trade union organizations at all levels in the province should strengthen ideological guidance, continuously promote the development and growth of the forces that love the motherland, Hong Kong and Macau, widely carry out patriotic education and publicity activities on national conditions and national policies, and gather the powerful spiritual strength of the workers in the Greater Bay Area to jointly build the Chinese Dream with one heart and move forward with one mind; strengthen development as the top priority, focus on the development of new and high-quality productivity, and widely organize and mobilize workers to make contributions to the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area; strengthen rights protection and services, focus on the concerns of workers, and effectively enhance the sense of gain, happiness and security of workers in the Greater Bay Area; strengthen exchanges and cooperation, focus on promoting the steady and far-reaching implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems", give full play to the role of the regular communication and liaison mechanism such as the joint meeting system, implement the deployment requirements of the 18th National Congress of the Chinese Trade Unions, and strive to create a new situation of high-quality development of trade union work in the Greater Bay Area.
The meeting reviewed and adopted the Minutes of the Fourth Joint Meeting of Trade Unions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which pointed out the direction for the in-depth promotion of the high-quality development of trade union work in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the new stage and injected strong impetus.
At the meeting, Chen Weidong, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, Ng Chau-pak, President of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions, and Ho Sio Ieng, President of the General Union of Trade Unions of Macau, delivered keynote speeches respectively. Du Ling, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Full-time Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, Tsang Chi-man, Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions, and Lei Chong Ching, Chairman of the General Union of Trade Unions of Macau, delivered work reports on the trade unions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for 2023 respectively. Huang Huagai, Deputy Secretary General and Director of the Social Work Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macau, Zhou Wei, Deputy Director of the Social Work Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, Cheok Sok Kwan, Acting Head of the Labor Inspection Department of the Labor Affairs Bureau of Macau, the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions, the General Union of Trade Unions of Macau, and the responsible persons and representatives of the trade union federations of the nine cities in the Pearl River Delta attended the meeting. The trade union federations of the nine cities in the Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) made exchange speeches.
It is reported that the joint meeting mechanism of trade unions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was jointly initiated and established by the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions and the General Union of Trade Unions of Macau. The three trade unions host the meeting on a rotating basis, convening the responsible persons of trade unions in the Greater Bay Area to jointly discuss trade union cooperation and development, and inviting the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macau, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Provincial Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, etc. as guiding units to attend the meeting as non-voting members. It is an effective form for trade unions in the Greater Bay Area to achieve regular communication, play the role of deliberation and decision-making functions, and an important platform for gathering the consensus of workers in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Its purpose is to deepen the exchanges and cooperation among trade unions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, assist in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and promote the integration of Hong Kong and Macau into the overall development of the country.
